Racing out of the Houston market, this tenacious desert racer has carved out an impressive career in SCORE's most demanding competitions. His breakthrough performance came at the 2018 SCORE Baja 1000, where he secured a hard-fought third place class finish in the grueling 1,134-mile peninsula run, establishing himself among the elite competitors in the world's premier desert race.
Building on that foundation, he elevated his game at the 2021 SCORE Baja 500, claiming an impressive second place class finish in the historic desert classic. This podium performance demonstrated his ability to consistently compete at the highest levels of off-road racing, where mechanical failures and navigational challenges eliminate the majority of entrants.
His racing resume includes multiple Baja 1000 campaigns, showcasing the dedication and financial commitment required to compete in these punishing events. The SCORE Magazine archives document his participation in various UTV categories, reflecting his versatility across different platforms and his commitment to the sport's evolution.
Known for his methodical approach to race preparation and ability to maintain competitive pace over extended distances, he represents the skilled privateer competitors who form the backbone of SCORE desert racing, bringing Texas grit to Baja's unforgiving terrain.
In the Pro UTV Open class, Justin Ellenburg has dominated with three wins in a row in his No. 1870 Can-Am. “We had a fun ride,” said Ellenburg. “We hit a rock and got a ding in one of the tires, but besides that we had a flawless race, with the BFGoodrich tires. We had one axle issue that we replaced quickly. Read More
A class that started with seven competitors, including Factory Polaris SCORE UTV FI Champion Wayne Matlock, ended up with only two finishers due to the tough course. These racers had to deal with mechanical issues and broken parts which kept most of them from finishing the race. Nevertheless, Justin Elenburg in the No. 1870 Cam-Am X3 put up a fast pace and dealt with the issues the quickest to win the class. "We had one flat tire during the race but also had to deal with one of the turbo hoses that popped off," said Ellenburg. "We got stuck in a bottleneck but the car did amazing overall. We had a clean race despite some technical difficulties with our equipment." Read More
In what is quickly becoming one of the fastest classes, the SCORE Pro UTV Open class allows for unlimited engine displacements in a chassis that has all of the factory attachments and suspension points. Many of the teams are still figuring out the winning combinations, but at the 34th SCORE San Felipe 250, Justin Elenburg, with Ernesto Taylor, Michael York, and Mike Jeluso had the right combination on their Can-Am X3.
