    ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico— Jim O’Neal’s life would not be the same without his iconic journey through the deserts, mountains, and beaches of the Baja California Peninsula—a magical corner of the planet he considers his second home. That bond has made him the winningest champion in SCORE International history with 26 titles, an all-time record within the organization founded by the late Mickey Thompson and later guided through its golden years by the “Godfather of Off-Road,” Sal Fish.

       O’Neal, 79, Simi Valley, Calif., is the founder of the successful O’Neal USA company, which remains at the forefront of motocross gear and apparel worldwide. He earned his most recent championship in the 2025 SCORE World Desert Championship as part of Shane Esposito’s team in the Pro Moto 40 class.

       As 53 years of SCORE Desert Racing Excellence, the ever-enthusiastic O’Neal—who has endured a long list of broken bones and hospital stays throughout his remarkable off-road career—has amassed 21 victories at the SCORE San Felipe 250. He is the only competitor to have raced in all 38 editions of the SCORE San Felipe 250.

       In the SCORE Baja 500, he stands as the most victorious racer in the prestigious event’s history with 26 wins, surpassing other legends of the sport such as the late Rod Hall with 18 victories, Larry Roeseler also with 18, and Ivan “Ironman” Stewart with 17.

       At the iconic SCORE Baja 1000—“The Grandaddy of All Desert Races”—Jim O’Neal has recorded 18 victories, just seven shy of the all-time leader, Rod Hall. Those wins include the triumph in the BFGoodrich Tires 58th SCORE Baja 1000 alongside Shane Esposito, 51, Canyon Lake, Calif., Francisco Septien, 49, Ensenada, Mexico, Rene Magana, 44, Lake Forest, Calif. and Jason Miller, 53, Shiner, Texas, aboard the No. 400x Honda CRF450X.

       O’Neal and company completed a clean sweep of the 2025 SCORE World Desert Championship by winning all four rounds of the season, including the 6th SCORE Baja 400, the youngest race in SCORE history. The event was held in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico—known as the “Off-Road Capital of the World.”

CHAMLEE, A CHAMPION BY NATURE

       Dan Chamlee, 63, Montecito, Calif., has found a new home in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico, within the Baja Peninsula he so deeply loves. It was here that he earned the 20th championship of his illustrious off-road career, all of his titles coming in Class 7.

       Chamlee, known for his charitable spirit and community focus, continues to strengthen ties in San Felipe, encouraging young people to chase their dreams just as he has across the deserts of Mexico and the United States. He first claimed a SCORE championship in 2004 and has since become an official SCORE International tire athlete with BFGoodrich Tires.

       Dan Chamlee won 3 of the 4 rounds of the 2025 SCORE World Desert Championship with his No. 700 Ford Ranger—capturing victories at the SCORE Baja 1000, SCORE Baja 400, and SCORE San Felipe 250. He also earned a second-place finish at the SCORE Baja 500, securing the 2025 Rod Hall SCORE Milestones Award by completing 1,974.25 miles—his tenth such award in his remarkable career.

SEPTIEN AND SOLORZANO, THE AZTEC KINGS

        Mexico’s most successful SCORE champions are Francisco Septien, 49, Ensenada, Mexico, and Eric Solorzano, 65, Tijuana, Mexico, both with 11 titles.

         Septien has won all of his championships on a motorcycle, including his most recent in 2025 in the Pro Moto 40 class, where he swept all four rounds of the 2025 SCORE World Desert Championship, claiming the title for the second consecutive year.

         Currently, Francisco Septien holds the record for the most victories by a Mexican in the SCORE Baja 1000 with 16 wins and in the SCORE Baja 500 with 10 wins. He also has seven victories in the SCORE San Felipe 250, following in the footsteps of Solórzano, who leads Mexico in that event with 11 wins.

         Living legend of Class 11, Eric Solorzano, is one of two Mexicans inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame alongside entrepreneur Nico Saad. He remains active behind the wheel of his VW Stock No. 1111, accumulating 11 SCORE championships with top co-drivers such as Miguel Haro, Roman Pereyra, and Horacio Pereyra.

GREAT SCORE AND BAJA CHAMPIONS

         In third place on SCORE’s all-time list is Jeff Kaplan, 64, Thousand Oaks, Calif., with 16 championships, his most recent coming in 2023 in the Pro Moto 60 class alongside his friend Kevin Ward. Kaplan has conquered the legendary SCORE Baja 1000 18 times, won the SCORE Baja 500 13 times, and crossed the finish line first six times in the spectacular SCORE San Felipe 250.

          Fourth place is shared by the late Rod Hall, from Reno, Nevada, and Dan Smith, who each hold 14 SCORE championships, building tremendous legacies in off-road racing for over four decades.

          Hall earned his first SCORE title in 1974, SCORE’s inaugural season, by winning in Class 3 and also claiming the overall championship that year. A true patriot, he served his country as a consultant thanks to his extensive knowledge of Hummer vehicles and competed in the first 50 editions of the legendary SCORE Baja 1000—a record that will stand forever in the history of —“The Grandaddy of All Desert Races”.

         Rod Hall also holds the record for the most victories in the iconic SCORE Baja 1000 with 25 wins. He passed away on June 14, 2019, and was described by former SCORE International president Sal Fish as “one of the founding fathers of off-road racing and certainly a pillar in SCORE’s history. Rod was an elite racer for more than 40 years, but he always remained humble. I remember him as very friendly, always offering a handshake and a smile, just as I knew him during a race I participated in back in 1969.”

         Dan Smith, part of the legendary Ford Rough Riders Ford team, also reached the milestone of 14 SCORE championships. Several of his titles came in motorcycle classes, while others were achieved alongside his late friend Dave Ashley, including two SCORE Trophy Truck championships in 1998 and 2001 as part of Dick Landfield’s Enduro Racing team.

ROUND 1: THE SCORE SAN FELIPE 250
          The first round of the 2026 SCORE World Desert Championship—the King Shocks 39th SCORE San Felipe 250—will take place from March 25–29, 2026, in San Felipe, Mexico, featuring over 250 teams from Oceania, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

         Popular Rat Sult will return for his 11th season as the official voice of SCORE International. The two-time X Games medalist in Street Luger will be joined by Kevin Johnson on the microphone during all four races this season, covering the tech inspection ramp, race starts, and finishes.

          In 2026, SCORE races—including the legendary SCORE Baja 1000—will mark 11 consecutive years held in Mexico, specifically within the magical and mysterious Baja California Peninsula.

          This year also marks the 53rd anniversary of SCORE International as the leading off-road organization, which has drawn millions of racers, media, teams, and fans throughout its history, including Hollywood celebrities, television personalities, motorsports stars, and athletes from baseball, surfing, and soccer worldwide.

       Y en “La Madre de todas las carreras fuera de camino”, la icónica SCORE Baja 1000, Jim O´Neal cuenta con 18 triunfos, a 7 del máximo ganador de la legendaria carrera, Rod Hall, incluida la victoria en la edición 58 de la BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 al lado de Esposito, Francisco Septién, René Magaña y Jason Miller a bordo de la motocicleta Honda CRF450X Número 400x.

CHAMLEE, UN CAMPEÓN POR NATURALEZA

       Chamlee, con un espíritu caritativo y siempre pensando en la comunidad, sigue uniendo lazos en la comunidad de San Felipe, e impulsando a los jóvenes para que persigan sus sueños, tal, y cómo el lo ha hecho por los desiertos de México y Estados Unidos, recordando que su primer campeonato de SCORE lo consiguió en 2004, y convertido en un atleta de la llanta oficial de SCORE International, BFGoodrich Tires.

      Los máximos ganadores de campeonatos en la historia de SCORE por México, son Francisco Septién, de Ensenada, Baja California, México, y Eric Solórzano, de Tijuana, Baja California, México, ambos con 11 títulos.

       Septién ha logrado todos sus campeonatos a bordo de una motocicleta, incluido el más reciente en 2025, dentro de la clase Pro Moto 40, ganando las 4 fechas del Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2025 de SCORE International, clase en la que se coronó por segundo año en fila.

        Actualmente, Francisco Septién es el mexicano con más victorias en la historia de la SCORE Baja 1000 con 16, y en la SCORE Baja 500 con 10, y cuenta con 7 éxitos en la SCORE San Felipe 250, siguiendo los pasos de Solórzano, quien es el rey en este departamento por su país con 11 victorias en la San Felipe 250.

       La leyenda viviente de la Clase 11, Eric Solórzano, es uno de dos mexicanos que son parte del Salón de la Fama del Off-Road al lado del empresario Nico Saad, y se mantiene en activo con su vochito stock Número 1111, acumula 11 campeonatos de SCORE al lado de grandes aliados al volante como Miguel Haro, Román Pereyra y Horacio Pereyra.

GRANDES CAMPEONES DE SCORE Y BAJA

        En el tercer lugar de todos los tiempos de SCORE aparece Jeff Kaplan, de 64 años, y de Thousand Oaks, California, con 16 campeonatos, el más reciente en 2023 dentro de la clase Pro Moto 60 al lado de su amigo Kevin Ward. Kaplan ha conquistado la legendaria SCORE Baja 1000 en 18 ocasiones, ganó 13 veces la SCORE Baja 500 y atrapó la bandera a cuadros 6 veces en la espectacular SCORE San Felipe 250.

       La cuarta posición está en manos del fallecido Rod Hall, de Reno, Nevada, y Dan Smith, quienes comparten ese honor entre los corredores con más campeonatos de SCORE con 14 coronas, creando enormes legados en el Off-Road por más de 4 décadas.

       Hall logró su primer título de SCORE en 1974, la primera temporada de SCORE en su historia, al coronarse en la Clase 3, y también fue el campeón overall en ese año, todo un patriota que sirvió a su país como consultor en base a su gran conocimiento de los vehículos Hummer, y que participó en las primeras 50 ediciones de la legendaria SCORE Baja 1000, récord que nadie podrá arrebatarle en la historia de “La Madre de todas las carreras fuera de camino”.

       Rod Hall es también el dueño del récord de más triunfos en la icónica SCORE Baja 1000 con 25 triunfos, quien falleciera el 14 de Junio de 2019, considerado por el antiguo presidente de SCORE International, Sal Fish, “como uno de los padres fundadores de las carreras fuera de camino, y ciertamente un pilar en la historia de SCORE. Rod fue uno de los corredores elite por más de 40 años, pero el siempre mantuvo su personalidad humilde, lo recuerdo como alguien muy amigable y que siempre te daba la mano, además de sonreír siempre, tal, y como lo conocí cuando fui parte de una carrera en 1969”.

        Dan Smith, parte del roster de corredores del equipo Rough Riders de la Ford, también alcanzó la cifra mágica de 14 campeonatos en SCORE, varios de esos campeonatos fueron en clases de motocicletas, y otros al lado de su fallecido amigo Dave Ashley, incluidos los dos en los SCORE Trophy Trucks en 1998 y 2001 como parte del equipo Enduro Racing de Dick Landfield.

FECHA 1, LA SCORE SAN FELIPE 250

           El popular Rat Sult estará en su temporada número 11 como la voz oficial de SCORE International, ganador de dos medallas en los X Games de ESPN en la modalidad de patinador de calle.           La organización deportiva SCORE International fue fundada en 1973 por el fallecido Mickey Thompson y dirigida por Sal Fish desde 1974 hasta que Fish vendió SCORE International a Roger y Elise Norman el 20 de diciembre de 2012.

          SCORE continúa siendo el organismo sancionador principal en el deporte de las carreras fuera de camino.
